Sadhna without a Guru

Guru

Sadhna Guru

We all got inspired in our live to do some type of sadhna which could have different purposes, for example it could be for inner peace, problem solving or anything. We also get the mantra, the procedure or vidhan, and also every thing which is required for the sadhna. But the question which arises in our mind is that- we don't have a guru, are we elilgible to do sadhna? Because of this we can't even start the sadhna.

So the simple question is that whether we can do sadhna without a guru or not?

For the answer to this question, we need to understand the importance of the fact that why guru is necessary for us. If we understood this we can easily come to a conclusion that whether we can do sadhna without a guru or not.

Importance Of Guru in sadhna

Guru is the one who teaches about something which we want to learn. He is our guide throughout the journey which we are going to travel. For example, in this case we are talking about sadhna. In sadhna, Guru tells us about the basics of the sadhna which are very important as well as beneficial. He tells us about the do's and don'ts in the sadhna. He is necessary for us to maintain discipline, inspire us and motivate us when we face failure and makes us keeping continue the sadhna. He can save us from the demerits of sadhna if we have done something wrong (like breaking some rule of the sadhna, discontinuing inbetween or if we have done something which is in the category of don't in the sadhna).

Guru vs Teacher

We have to clearly understand the difference between a guru and a teacher. A teacher is someone who teaches us something. But he didn't take complete responsibility of us for everything in the matter we are learning from him. His role is just to teach you and to make you know about the topic. While the Guru is the one who not only teaches us but also take responsibility of us throughout the process. He will never leave us in between the journey.

It is as per the popular saying, "Agar ishwar ruth jaye to guru hume bacha lenge, par agar guru ruth jaye to hume bhagwan bhi nahi bacha sakta".

So it is also the duty of the shishya to respect his guru from heart. This is not only a duty for formality but it is a basic responsibility of the shishya.

Can we do sadhna without a Guru

It depends on which type of sadhna we are doing. If you want to do Gayatri Sadhna (for example), and you are capable of doing it on yourself, means you know the mantra you know the procedure and you have the capability to complete it on yourself, then you can go for it.

But if you want to be connected to a particular panth like aghor panth (Nath sampraday), you need a guru for sure. This is because as a common person we don't know the rules, basics, procedures, requirements etc of the panth which are mandatory.

Different type of panths:-
1. Nath Sampraday (Aghor panth)
2. Naga Sadhu
3. Satnami panth
4. Varkari Panth
5. Kaul Panth

and many more....

To find a true Guru is a big achievement in itself.

Spiritual Awakening
