Ganesha is the saatvik God who is woshipped before every positive task. In spiritual beginning in one's life, it is very better and fortunate if the person take the blessing of God Ganesha. He is the giver of happiness, peace, positiveness, mind, siddhi, wealth, health and fortune in life. He is the small son of God Shiva (bigger one is Kartikay). His head is of an elephant. That is because elephants are today considered to be a symbol of God Ganesha. What ever we give elephants to eat is considered to be a bhog to God Ganesha.

Spiritual Reason of Ganesha poojan

In spirituality, there are lot of reasons for the Poojan of Ganesha. One of the main reason for his worship in the beginning of every task is that he is the protector and provides asurity of the completion of the task. In sadhanas also the same concept is applicable. In spiritual world, we have to worship God Ganesha before any sadhana we are going to perform. This is because he is blessed by the God Shiva for his worship before any sadhana and even every new task. And he provides the person with the asurity of success of his task. He provides fortune in life of people who worship him with pure heart and intentions.

Beej mantra of God Ganesha

The most common and power mantra of God Ganesha is 'Om gam ganpataye namah'. This mantra is the giver of happiness, and fortune for the beginning of every positive task. This can even be used in the beginning of any of the other sadhnas. It is preferable that you must worship God Ganesha with this beej mantra in every sadhana, you are going to perform to assure your success in the sadhna.

Why Ganesha have the head of elephant

Elephant is a sattvik being and a symbol of satvikness. He also have the most intellectual powers after the human beings. There is a small story behind the reason why God Ganesha have the head of an elephant. Once when the Maa Parvati was taking bath in a cave, God Shiva, her husband, entered in the cave. There were a lot of servants outside the cave who were ordered by Maa Parvati that don't let anyone enter in this cave. But the entrance of Lord Shiva made her little sad. The sadness was not that God Shiva entered in to the cave. But the actual reason was that her orders are not followed by the servants of God Shiva. So finally she realize that these are the servants of the God Shiva, and they will keep God Shiva always first in their priority. So she thought there must be someone who keeps her wishes first in his priority. So she got an idea of a son. She created a small boy from her powers. He is Ganesha.

On some other day, when Maa Parvati goes to take bath in the same cave, she asked Ganesha not let anyone enter in the cave. He followed her order. Then God Shiva arrived there but the Ganesha stops him from entering the cave. Then in the anger, God Shiva cut his head from his neck with his trishul. After some time when Maa Parvati comes out, she find her son beheaded by God Shiva. She was very angry. And asked Lord Shiva to make him alive again otherwise she will also commit suicide. Then God Shiva sent his ganas (servants) to search in south direction for a child whose mother is sleeping by facing away from him. They find an elephant in such a condition and they took the head of that elephant back to kailash mountain. So in the lack of time, he was made alive by adding the head of an elephant to him. This is how God Ganesha gets the head of an elephant.

Ganesha is the God of prosperity, wealth, and happiness. So he must be prayed to before beginning of anything in our life and also for the currently executing tasks that have failed a lot of number of times, for their completion. He is also worshiped in tantra sadhnas. But the procedure of his worship varies in that case. But he can be worshiped simply to get his blessings.
